Celebrating 25 incredible years, The Black Women's Expo Chicago (BWe Chicago) is the nation’s foremost exposition targeting the African American consumer market where patrons can find the latest trends, show for amazing new products and merchandise, get informed, empowered and enlightened. This 3 day event was organized by MGPG Events and held at McCormick Place Convention Center.   The Expo showcased a wide range of products and services catering to black women.  Products ranged from apparel and fashion accessories, health and wellness, cuisine and entertainment, medical services, home decor, nutrition, skin care products, beauty and fragrance, dating services, fitness and equipment, fashion and lifestyle, hand crafted arts, personal products, spa, and fitness.

BWe 201 was inspiring, uplifting and celebratory.  I found the seminars on personal finance and entrepreneurship to be extremely informative, well planned and full of helpful content.  The theme of BWe was #SheMatters.  That theme was expressed in the seminars that focused on women as a whole (the sum of many things…get it?)…mind, body and soul.

The marketplace was a cornucopia of black owned and woman owned businesses catering to the African American Woman consumer.  I took my time navigating the crowds to really discover new brands, products and services that I hadn’t heard of previously.    I enjoyed unique fashions at the Obsessed Chicago booth, met an incredible artist, Tyler Clark at her Inspire by Tyler booth (her artwork was incredible), enjoyed a sinfully delicious desert at Decadent Flavor and so much more.

I loved the Jewel Osco “We Love Local” Food Pavilion.  It was incredible meeting black owned food vendors. My absolute favorite was the Michele Food’s booth.  She has butter pecan pancake syrup that literally made my soul leap for joy!!! I took a break at the BETHer Pavilion and enjoyed a luxe experience in the middle of the expo. The area was all white with beautiful floral décor and positive affirmations for black women surrounding the space. They were promoting their new shows on BET and I enjoyed the #Queen Photo booth and a little champagne. I even left with a cute beauty bag!

If you are natural girl like I am, the expo is the perfect time to rack up on your favorite hair products.  Large brands like Mielle Organics, Luster Products, TGIN and The Mane Choice had deals that kept my debit card working overtime! I was also thrilled to see more local natural hair brands at the expo as well. I picked up a shampoo bar from Dr. Herbal’s organic and vegan hair care and I cannot wait to use it to see how it helps with dry scalp. I even met celebrity hair stylist, Kim Kimble who was a Walgreens pavilion promoting her new hair line and flat iron that will be coming soon to a Walgreens! I’m excited about that one!

I headed to the adult lounge area and enjoyed some house music by incredible Lady DJs in the Shhh lounge. It was a silent party where patrons could grab cocktail, headphones and get their groove on to their favorite house DJs. The amazing vendors and entrepreneurs selling financial products, beauty, health and wellness products, toys and books for children and so much more inspired me to spend more of my money at black owned businesses in the future!  I met some amazing authors who inspired me with their stories and their history.  As a writer, I was fascinated by their creative process and how they got started in the literary world.    The marketplace carried the theme of #SheMatters in offering products and services that catered to taking care of ourselves…mind, body and soul.  I left more informed as a consumer with a list of companies I cannot wait to support.  I was inspired by the many #LadyBosses I met and spoke with and I left feeling uplifted and celebrated as a black woman.

Black Bloggers Chicago is grateful for the opportunity to attend this year’s Black Women’s Expo!

Until next time,

Take care of yourselves and one another.
